Infused Vitamin Water

As always, the start of a new year comes with the generic detox, dieting and 'new year, new me' inspiration. However, I don't really buy in to all this. What I do buy in to is balance, and after some slight over indulging at Christmas on anything that could fit in my mouth, followed by sleeping in and lazing about doing nothing most days, I can tell you right now that my body is definitely out of whack.

One of the things that I always think is really undervalued when it comes to health and wellness is water. Just simple, plain ol' water. I mean the benefits are endless:

  • It relieves fatigue

  • Improves digestion

  • Aids sleep

  • Improves skin complexion

  • Boost your immune system

  • Improves your mood/ helps hormones

  • Supports healthy weight loss

  • Prevents headaches

  • Helps with oral hygiene

  • Enhances brain function (yes it can even makes you smarter!)

Hands up who definitely doesn't drink enough water? Uh huh, yup, Same. The problem I find is that I am not too keen on water alone, I'm much more of a cordial/ juice/ coffee type of girl. Obviously these are not the best for your skin and teeth in the long run. So with that in mind, I started to do infused waters instead, with these two flavour combinations at the top of my list of go tos.

Lemon, Cucumber and Mint:

A simple concoction of about 1/3rd of a sliced cucumber, one lemon cut into sections, and a handful of fresh mint leaves. Topped off with filtered water (I use a Brita filter.)

The benefits:

  1. It's great for the. skin and hair. Water in general is great for hydration and keeping the skin nice and plump. The added cucumber is great for fresh and clear skin.

  2. It's full of antioxidants. Drinking more water combined with the health benefits of lemon will make you feel revitalised and renewed.

  3. It's a good source of Vitamin C. Citrus fruits in general are a great source of Vitamin C, adding lemon to your water gives you an extra boost to beat any winter blues.

  4. Helps with Digestion. Mint is known for it's anti-bloating properties, this combined with the extra water intake will help ban any digestive sluggishness.

Grapefruit and Rosemary:

This one is just a couple of large slices of fresh grapefruit and a couple of springs or fresh rosemary. Once again topped off with filtered water.

The benefits:

  1. Immunity booster. Grapefruit is full of Vitamin C.

  2. Aids in stress relief. The smell of this combo is uplifting and aids in clarity of the mind.

  3. Helps with weight loss. If you are wanting to shed a couple of pounds after an overindulgent winter then this is a great drink to have at hand.

Be sure to store your infused water in the fridge for at least a couple of hours to get the most out of the flavours. I like to keep a couple of bottles in the fridge for a day or two and tap into them when I need a glass of the good stuff.
